Launch Day at the Nature Network Resource Center

We are so glad to be host for the AIDS 2020; Virtual Conference led by refugees. The Nature Network CBO is the oldest refugee-led organisation catering to the needs of Trans-Persons between 18-27 years. But, this is not to mean that we do not cater to other categories of persons. In fact part of our vision as a founder member CBO of Advocacy Network Africa (AdNetA), we were specifically formed for: End to TB, HIV, Malaria by 2030 integrating COVID-19 response and recovery; Elimination of violence against women+; Universal Health Coverage advocacy; and nature conservation.

The Nature Network resource center is both a cottage industry, livelihood turnkey space and operates shelters which are used as homes for refugees.

The Nature Network CBO is the official venue for refugees to participate in the AIDS 2020; Virtual Conference.

The director who was present at the launch said: “I welcome everyone to join us in the AIDS 2020; Virtual conference. The conference is officially open on 6th July 2020-10 July 2020, but at the Nature Network CBO we shall continue with post-conference activities up to 15th July 2020.

HIV/AIDS and Daily Life

Let us Talk HIV/AIDS

We are part of a larger network and one of the counselling platforms called Africa Counselling Services shared some interesting statistics. Between August 2019 to July 2020 there were 55,000 questions on what HIV/AIDS meant.

HIV/AIDS is an acronym which in full is: Human Immunodeficiency virus for HIV.

Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome is for AIDS.

The need to talk about HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 pandemic

This issue appeared 67,000 times between March 2020-July 2020.  It is important to know how to differentiate between HIV and COVID-19. You cannot treat yourself at home. So, you need to go for a check-up. Also, it is important that when you are diagnosed you get timely treatment.

Within a few weeks of HIV infection:

Flu-like symptoms such as fever, sore throat, and fatigue occur. These are the same symptoms with COVID-19. However with COVID-19 one should add loss of the sense of smell to the list.

AIDS progresses into weight loss, fever, night-sweats, fatigue, recurrent infections such as pneumonia or TB and ulcers that can get septic if not treated.

How one can tell the signs of HIV:

This query appeared 70,000 times between January 2019-July 2020.

The signs to look out for are:

1.      Rapid weight loss

2.      Recurring fever or high body temperature

3.      Extreme and un-explained tiredness

4.      Prolonged swelling of the lymph glands in the armpits, groin and neck

5.      Diarrhoea that lasts for more than a week

6.      Sores of the mouth, anus or genitals

7.      Pneumonia

You need:

a.      To test

b.      Seek counselling

c.      Be aware that AIDS diagnosis is not a death sentence

d.      Remember to wear that mask

Youth Resilience:

 The Firsts!

It is the 6th July 2020

It is the first day of the AIDS virtual Conference

It is the first AIDS virtual conference

It is the first AIDS conference to provide visibility for refugee activities

It is the first AIDS 2020; virtual conference in which youth refugees are presenting at the AIDS 2020; virtual conference

We are young; we are refugees; we are not afraid to participate in the fight against HIV!

Best Practices for a Fulfilling Life:

The youth are driven, focused and energetic.

The youth need guidance to benefit from their drive, focus and energy.

Do the following 3 things:

Get peers and mentors who can guide you to organise your life so that it becomes quality life.

You have to engage in activities that make you grow in your body, mentally and emotionally. This makes you a whole person.

Pray, play, pay your bills and paint the world in nice colours!

Be safe, stay protected!
